The Basilian Fathers Museum is a solemn destination for religious pilgrims and tourists located in the heart of Mundare, Canada. Built in 1953 and operated by the Basilian Fathers or the Order of St. Basil the Great, this museum offers tourists and pilgrims an array of religious artifacts.

In 1910, French-Canadian priest Father Josaphat Jean travelled to Ukraine to educate himself on Eastern rites as well as Ukrainian language and culture. Aside from learning the country’s language, he also collected an array of religious artifacts. The communist regime in Ukraine in 1940 led to the creation of the the Mundare Museum, which houses Father Jean’s collections, in order to preserve the rich cultural and religious heritage of Ukraine in Canada.

And in 1991, a new museum was built and named the Basilian Fathers Museum where the collections are now permanently kept. Currently, the museum features two types of collections, the Religious and the Folk collections. The religious collections are basically religious artifacts which include old liturgical books, crucifixes, church furnishings, chalices, and many more. The folk collection includes Ukrainian artifacts such as embroidery, hand-woven clothing, Ukrainian Easter eggs and many more.

Aside from the artifacts and collections, the Basilian Fathers Museum is also home to several exhibits including the The New Home in the West, the Service in the Vineyard of the Lord, and the Basilian Fathers and their People. The first exhibit displays the change of dwellings of early Ukranian settlers while the second provides tourists an overview of the Basilian Order’s history and its development.

Meanwhile, The Basilian Fathers and their People offers a glimpse of the Basilian Fathers’ missions in Alberta, Canada. In addition to these exhibits, several other temporary exhibits and displays are available all over the museum. All of which is designed to help visitors learn the order’s history and understand its mission.

In conclusion, for those who would like to have a meaningful and educational tour, the Basilian Fathers Museum is just the right place to be. Aside from that, it is open to everyone everyday for free. Visitors can also purchase unique Ukrainian and religious souvenirs in the museum’s Gift Shop.

Vienna, Austria is the resting place of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. This national depository is a significant tourist attraction because it houses a lot of 19th Century European history in it.

This awe-inspiring facility was constructed in 1858 when Franz Joseph I (the Emperor at the time) requested it to be a component in his city expansion. This building was designed to correctly depict and bring together the creative artifacts that the Habsburgs accumulated over centuries past, and it took 2 decades to construct. Creation of the museum started in the year 1871 and ended during the year 1891.

When the Kunsthistorisches Museum opened, the works of art obtained from the imperial Habsburgs were contained in one place, and this was considered to be a tribute for patronizing the Habsburgs. Karl von Hasenauer and Gottfried Semper were the architects who based the design of the structure to that of the Italian Renaissance method and set up a connection to an important epoch that caters to arts and sciences based on the love for history.

Visitors to the site will witness a lot of amazing and significant art pieces from the treasure and art chambers (Kunst- und Wunderkammer) of Emperor Rudolph II and Archduke Ferdinand. These works of art, combined with Archduke Leopold Wilhelm’s baroque assortments, make up the core exhibits in the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Examining and analyzing these art pieces will show off the artistic choices and tastes of the Imperial Family as well as various fanatics who lived during that era. These preferences still show up in many ways during this day and age, portraying a form of love for Habsburg art and the Imperial dynasty.

The Kunsthistorisches Museum now exhibits various art pieces and items from the Medieval Ages, the time periods of the Romans, Greeks, and the Egyptians, and the assortment of Baroque and Renaissance objects.

St. Petersburg, Russia is surely proud of one if its prime tourist attractions: the State Hermitage Museum. Boasting more than 3 million works of art which symbolize centuries of people and events, this national depository has taken in the essentials that make up the culture of the world.

The country’s tourist spot started off in the year 1764 when Catherine The Great, the Empress of Russia at the time, bought a huge assortment of paintings from artists in Western Europe. Johann Ernest Gotzkowski was the merchant from Berlin who sold her works of art from the Dutch and the Flemish. This event started the building blocks that made up the museum as it appears today. This treasury is considered to be one of the world’s biggest museums directed by Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky.

To date, the State Hermitage Museum houses approximately 2,967,334 things to look at. These include 1,131,606 numismatics, 737,772 items related to archaeology, 300,981 applied art pieces, 12,620 models or sculptures, 16,842 graphic art pieces, and 145,464 miscellaneous artifacts. The New Acquisition Department donated 6,816 of its findings to this museum during 2009.

Visitors will start their cultural journey in St. Petersburg’s historic centre, containing the primary museum building which houses the 365 rooms where most of the displays are placed in. This is made up of 6 facilities that were built during the 18th and 19th centuries, with the Winter Palace being the most significant due to its history of providing shelter for the imperials at the time. The Old and New Hermitage, the Small Hermitage, and The Winter Palace exhibit ancient world art, numismatic and archaeologial collections, and assortments of cultural monuments from Oriental nations and Russia itself.

The State Hermitage Museum also has the Menshikov Palace that displays the Hermitage’s fine and decorated arts that revive the classic interior designs present during the time of Peter the Great, and the Museum of the Imperial Porcelain Factory.

What’s the first thing that comes to an art connoisseur’s mind when he or she hears the words “French Museum”? More often than not, it’ll be the Louvre.

Commonly known as the most visited museum in the world (with an average of 15,000 visits per day), the Louvre Museum is situated right at the heart of the city of love, Paris. Considered as a central landmark of the city, it isn’t hard to miss – the museum’s main entrance is a majestic pyramid formed out of glass and metal.

The grand detail of the museum’s structure coincides with its colorful history. From its 12th century birth as a fortress, the Louvre gradually transformed into a royal palace, then into an artist residence, until finally turning into a public gallery and showcase of works of art. The acquired collection of art that the Louvre currently contains total to an average of 400,000 works, categorized into 8 curatorial departments. The 8 curatorial departments, which subscribe to a certain period of Art History or Form, are then subdivided into permanent and temporary exhibits.

Art connossieurs and collectors of all kinds are sure to have their eyes for an aesthetic treat with works from art legends such as Renaissance artist Michaelangelo, with his marble sculpture, The Dying Slave, and Hieronymus Bosch’s painting, The Ship of Fools, to name a few. However, the main attraction of the Louvre would undeniably be Leonardo da Vinci’s painting, the Mona Lisa.

The Louvre Museum is open every day except for Tuesday and on some French holidays, namely December 25, January 1 and May 1. Opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Wednesday and Friday extending to 10 p.m. Admission is free for art historians, disabled individuals, unemployed and minimum wage employees, and for those under 18 years of age.

Centre Georges Pompidou, or Pompidou Centre in English, offers locals and tourists and locals a unique spectacle designed to illicit awe and admiration. Located in the Beaubourg Paris, this unique and highly sophisticated architecture was designed by architects and structural engineers Renzo Piano, Richard and Su Rogers, GianFranco Franchini, Peter Rice and Edmund Happold for France’s President Georges Pompidou (1969-1974).

Locally known simply as Beaubourg, it was opened to the public by French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing in January 1977. Centre Georges Pompidue features an innovative “inside out” architectural design with its escalators, elevators and air-conditioning all on the outside. This unique design elicited mixed reactions from different spectators- both negative and positive. However, despite its eccentric design, it has garnered more than 150 million visitors since it became open to the public.

Pompidou Centre is home to the largest public library, Bibliotheque publique d’information, Europe’s largest modern art museum, Musee National d’Art Moderne, the center of music and acoustic research IRCAM. It has also been used for temporary exhibitions and has also been used in several films including a James Bond film entitled Moonraker. Aside from its unique structure and wonderful exhibitions, this unique architecture also boasts of other amenities including restaurants and internet cafes.

In addition, locals and tourists can delight themselves with the Stravinsky Fountain located nearby. It boasts of 16 water-spraying sculptures designed by Niki de Saint-Phalle and Jean Tinguely that represents Igor Stravinsky’s works. Furthermore, in front of the museum stands the Place Georges Pompidou, which is home to street performers, carnivals and other attractions.

It is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 am- 10:00 pm and on Saturday and Sunday of the same time. To get here, you can simply take the Metro stations (Rambuteau and Les Halles) or the RER (Chatelet- Les Halles). For those looking for a unique museum experience in Paris, Centre Georges Pimpidou is the place to check out with its refreshingly-unique design and varied attractions.

London Dungeon, one of the most popular tourist destination in London, provides tourists an innovative way to learn of the most gruesome events and darkest times in London’s history. Built in 1974 and operated by Merlin Entertainments, it displays historical events in a “gallows humour” style that depicts almost 1000 years of the city’s darkest times.

This museum features 14 actor-led shows and 3 spine-chilling rides complete with amazing special effects designed to provide a scary yet educational experience for everyone. The shows include The Crypt, The Great Plague of London, Sweeney Todd, Bloody Mary: Killer Queen, and the infamous Jack the Ripper. Each scene/segment is accompanied with either a dramatic narration or video whereas some scenes allow audience participation like in The Torture Chamber.

In addition, London Dungeon features unique rides designed to take this chilling experience to the next level. Boat Ride to Hell offers audience a tour of the dungeon on a boat with some scary surprises along the way. Meanwhile, Extremis: Drop Ride to Doom emulates execution by hanging by dropping the ride 15 feet below while a noose hangs upfront. Since the rides are equipped with cameras, tourists can check out their photos after their scary ride.

Aside from the gory and macabre representation of London’s darkest times, London Dungeon also features other amenities and facilities. This includes a souvenir shop where tourists can purchase an array of items from mugs, T-shirts, toy rats, and even a plastic cut-off ear keyring, and a cafe where they can rest and eat. They can also check-out other places of interests located near the place.

Although London Dungeon isn’t recommended for young kids and those with nervous disposition, the place is almost always jam-packed. Thus, it is recommended to book one’s tour earlier to fully enjoy the dungeon’s facilities. Furthermore, its accessibility makes it an easy choice for those who want to have a scary yet fun-filled adventure.

A typical museum, primarily due to time, interest and curatorial constraints, would usually center on only one or two unifying themes. These themes would then be sourced out from the museum’s collection and resources. This then means that that typical museum would only have minimal exhibits a year, with the possibility of show repetitions or rehashes (if it has to avoid having a permanent exhibit).

Now, the British Museum isn’t your typical museum. It isn’t that museum constrained to one or two themes and/or shows a year. It isn’t even a museum limited on having to sustain on permanent exhibitions. It’s a historical hub – with its extensive and culturally comprehensive collection of works – that lets its art storage create its themes.

Founded in the year 1753 by the physician Sir Hans Sloane, with the intention of creating a museum that will (and did!) universally contain a collection of antiquities and curiosities, the British Museum surprisingly grew in size (museum structure and collection size) in a fast
