The Madeline Island Museum is one of the historic places that you should visit when in the La Pointe area. Here you will find the place was once a prominent historic, unincorporated community where the French fur traders used it as a trading post in 1693 later in the 19th century the American Fur Company established a post in the island. Madeline Island was later deemed a good focal point for historical and cultural accumulation in Wisconsin. You’ll be quite fascinated when you take a look the old tools in the 19th century Old Jail. There are old relics and artifacts that you can view in the Pioneer Barn where you’ll find items used by early 20th century settlers. You can also experience open ground collections like in the Stockade and see the Brasswood Island brownstone quarry, a boat winch, net-drying rack and a maple-sugaring kettle.
