The Mission Mill Museum is part of the heritage museums in the Salem area. The 5-acre mill site has a historic background that shaped the state of Oregon from 1834 to 1862. It was called the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill which was founded in 1889 by Thomas Lister Kay of the Kay Family. The mill helped develop the fine woolen fabrics and blankets that would be the mainstay of the industry during that era. The industry stood firm and produced fine wool products and eventually became Pendleton Woolen Mills. Today, the vibrant mill structure still stands and its colorful history can be discovered by visiting the museum. Here you can see 1800-1900s style millstream knitting devices and even vintage wool products that are on display.
